Landscape

The Oder-Spree-Lake region is regarded as eldorado for people who enjoy water-based activities and nature lovers. Here you find a very special, romantic atmosphere created by a charming variation of water and fairy-like landscapes, swamps, meadows, forests, small creeks and 2,300 lakes.

Sights

Near Brandenburg's largest lake, lake Scharmützel, you find the new and biggest thermal spring, Bad Saarow. You can start your lake excursions here. Because of its historical parks the town of Fürstenwalde is seen as "green pearl on the river Spree". The Hanseatic League town of Frankfurt upon Oder, border town to Poland, has been nick-named "Gateway to the East". Visit the brick dominated inner parts of the city, the monumental Marienkirche, the oldest medieval city hall, the Kleist-Museum or 'Viadrina', the university first founded in 1503. In Kloster Neuzelle see the Gothic cloister with its gorgeous baroque decoration as well as the brewery nearby.

On Spree island Beeskow Castle is a so-called 'cultural magnet'. In addition to various art exhibitions big events take place here annually, e.g. "Osterspectaculum" at Easter and "Räuberfest" in fall. In Eisenhüttenstadt daily life in the former GDR can be explored in a special exhibition.
